Hope and Change: Keep it Comin’

ImageEleven years ago I became a Christian. I believe that when God comes into your life and redeems your soul from an eternal separation from Him, well, things around you begin to take on a new light. You know, colors are more vibrant, aromas and fragrances are more enhanced. Your senses are sharper, your mind is sharper.

What in the world am I getting at?

I guess I’m trying to say that things that didn’t mean a whole lot to me suddenly meant something. The things I had no interest in then I now find interesting.

Take abortion for instance. I always thought abortion was wrong, even in my wandering years, BC. But now I weep over the callous murder of countless babies just because someone believed the lie that they were a blob of tissue. Young girls are tricked into taking the magic pill by the “family planners”, knowing alla along that the odds are against them. Then they are all too willing to “help” them out of their situation for a small fee.

Homosexuality? I always thought: What you do is your business, just keep it out of my business. But now I’m saddened by the fact that men and women are dying younger and younger because they believe the lie that they can do what they want without any repercussions. Cigarette companies have to put labels on the pack warning that smoking can lead to death but schools are now encouraging elementary age children to live any kind of lifestyle they wish, and to start it as soon as possible.

What about politics? Ahh, politics. Before I became a Christian, I cared only about what I might gain from voting for a certain candidate. Though I leaned towards conservative thoughts, the bottom line was: What’s in it for me? Not so any more. Now I ask the question: What ’s in it for God? What does God’s word say?

Yeah, the things that didn’t matter to me berfore Christ take on a whole new meaning for me when I look at them from a Christian perspective. I find that God has put a passion in my heart for the things He is passionate about. I love the things He loves and I hate the things He hates. Did you know that God hates? He does. Not kidding. Seven of them. It’s in Proverbs 6:16-19.

  1. A proud look
  2. A lying tongue
  3. Hands that shed innocent blood
  4. A heart that devises wicked plans
  5. Feet that are swift in rinning to evil
  6. A false witness who speaks lies
  7. One who sows discord among brethren

This is quite a list. I need to study this list and know this list and I need to hate this list.

Am I passionate enough? I don’t think I am. But I am more passinate than I was.

How about you? Are you passionate about the things of God? I hope you are.
