Uninsured By The Numbers

16 July 2009 94 views No Comment

ImageThere are an estimated 47 Million uninsured people in the USA. That is an astromomical number, isn’t it? But it is an even more interesting number when you learn how this number breaks down. Let’s take a look at it:

8.93 Million earn three tiimes the poverty level. About two thirds of these have no children to insure, just themselves.

6 Million earned between 200 and 300 percent of the poverty level, making it possible to pay for minor health care needs.

11 Million are elligible for government subsidized programs but are not enrolled.

The number goes down to just over 21 Million people who are legitimately uninured. Still a large number but far from being the crisis that the current administration has made it out to be, and far from being a good reason for the government to take control of our health care system when they can’t even manage Medicare and Medicade.
