Red-Letter Christians and the Emergent Church-Part III

imageThe Red-Letter Christian’s, a recent politically motivated movement of the Emergent Church, are making inroads among the younger crowd today. In fact, college age students are the specific targets of this movement.

They are smart to do so because this specific generation seems to desire a more spiritual flavor in their church diet that the generation that came before them. The folks saved during the Jesus movement of the 60’s and 70’s seemed to be happy just to know that God loved them and desired to be with them. They got saved, read the bible, wrote and sang songs and witnessed to others about what God did in their lives.

Their kids, however, want a few more bells and whistles to go with their bible. The Emergent Church offers that to them through contemplative prayer, Mary adoration, prayer beads, prayer walks, incense and candles, etc. In short, they want change. Sound familiar? Hope and change?

It would be important to note that it’s hard to find an emergent that is not also an Obama supporter. That’s because of the social agenda that both have in common. We are all equal and all deserve our fare share. The Emergents actually get this from the Book of Acts.

Acts 2:42-45 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Just as Jesus’ teaching on the Sermon on the Mount was specifically to the church, this passage in Acts is also directed specifically to the church. “All things in common” was the churches way of meeting each others needs materially but also spiritually. They had food, clothing, and shelter but they also had the teaching of the Apostles. It’s certain that the majority of America doesn’t accept the Apostles teaching, nor do the Red-Letter Christians accept the Apostles Teaching.

Instead of accepting this passage for what it is, they have turned the idea of “All things in common” into some kind of Marxist Christianity. They take the famous Marxist quote, “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs”, and evangelize it in order to fit it into their church mold. It’s kind of like what was happening when Obama was running for office. The news media began pushing the idea that Jesus was actually a community organizer, you know, like Barack Obama.

The Red-Letter Christian movement is simply an attempt to politicize the church. This is something the enemy of the church would love to see happen and I believe he, Satan, is actually in charge of the whole thing. I believe the Emergent Church is demonic at its core because of their denial of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Listen to this clip of Brian McLaren, the mosts influential leader of the Emergent Church, talking about the cross being a distraction and false advertising to the things that matter most.

Brian McLaren discusses the cross of Christ.
